The National Centre for Programme Management is involved in one of the initiatives under Article 169 identified on the basis of the criteria set out in the Seventh Framework Programme, under the Cooperation programme:

AAL - a joint research programme on 'Ambient Assisted Living'

AAL IS NOT A NEW EUROPEAN FUNDING PROGRAMME - BUT A NEW FUNDING PROGRAMME FOR EUROPE!

The Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme
is a joint research and development (R&D) funding activity by actual 20 European Member States[1] and 3 Associated States[2] (Slovenia and Switzerland still subject of formal accession) with the financial support of the European Community based on Article 169 of the EC treaty.

[1] Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom
[2] Israel, Norway and Switzerland

The overall objective of the programme is to enhance the quality of life of older people and strengthen the industrial base in Europe through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The AAL Joint Programme is implemented by the AAL Association, whose members are the funding organisations of the AAL Partner States.
